New Pages at BayingHound.com

The last few weeks I have done little other than sit on the couch trying to rest up from the pneumonia. My laptop was always running and I worked on updating the website quite a bit. Surf around now and you will find:

A guide called All About Ibex containing info about merino wool, washing instructions, etc.

Clearance Corner where you can find great deals on closeout items including the last of our Maxpedition stock.

Sustainable Practices detailing our commitment to a triple bottom line.

And 1% for Good, our charitable giving program.

I am finally feeling better, so blog posts will come more frequently. I have reviews of our new gear in the works and a contest idea brewing.

Welcome to our newest Hound

Earlier today, we adopted a 1 year old eight pound dauchshund mix from the Capital Area Humane Society. We named her Hawise (haw-wiss) after an ancient relative of Alex's. They are both snuggling next to me as I type. :)

Shipping to Canada - fast and economical!

Though we are based in central Ohio, we find ourselves shipping more and more items to Canada. We suspect that the exchange rates favoring the Canadian dollar have something to do with this. We may also attract customers because shipping for most items is less than $5 via first class mail to Canada.

Whatever the reason, we appreciate our customers from every country.

Can you take a SIGG through airport security?

We get this question quite a bit from our friends and customers. The short answer is yes, with a few caveats:

1. Don't fill it with water first. I know this sounds basic, but even people who travel allot forget they have a filled water bottle (I've done it a couple of times since the new regulations were put into place). You can always fill it at a drinking fountain on the other side.

2. Don't treat it like something special at the security checkpoint and ask if it is ok to take it through. Remember, it is only an empty water bottle, nothing more. When you volunteer information and ask a person in authority if something is ok, often their first response is, "well if he's asking, maybe there's something wrong here." You're trying to be helpful, but you may only end up causing yourself hassle. It's not up to you to do the TSA's job for them.

3. The TSA is often capricious and their policies/procedures vary widely between individual screeners and airports. I say this from personal experience having traveled heavily for business purposes in the last three years. I've successfully taken my SIGG through security in Columbus, OH, Minneapolis, MN and Palm Beach, FL. However, I unfortunately can't guarantee you a problem-free trip as the TSA is so hard to predict. You may run into a screener who decides your SIGG bottle could function as some sort of a weapon, lead to the downfall of western society, and must therefore be restricted from airline travel. Hopefully, however, you will have a good experience.

Let us know if you have anything positive or negative to add on this subject.

Ibex Wool Clothing is on its way!

Ibex just emailed me the tracking number for our order. The QuT, EchoT, and loads of other items will be here soon. It is estimated to arrive this Thursday and we hope to have everything listed for sale by next Monday.

What am I looking forward to the most? Undies. Don't knock 'em 'til you've tried 'em - merino wool underwear rocks. It is super soft, antimicrobial, lightweight, and breathable.

Hound in the Blizzard

We live in Columbus OH where there is a blizzard today! We have about 12 inches of snow on the ground with more coming down. Lots of wind is blowing it around into drifts as high as two feet. Our amazing mail carrier still arrived to pick up packages, so hopefully customers will not notice any delay.

The hound

Alex taking his bike with snow tires out to the market. The way there (downhill) he managed to stay on the bike, but he walked the uphill slope on the way home
